Teaching an Old Dog New Tricks
As many of you know I have recently started a new job as the Program Assistant for 4-H Youth and Development in Franklin County. If it sounds important...that's just because the title is long. Jennifer, the 4-H agent, would say that she can't live without me, but I know that she could...she would just be very tired all the time. Anyway, I am learning all sorts of new things. I spent two days last week at 4-H Environmental Camp and that was actually a lot of fun. I basically followed Jen around like a little puppy trying to learn the workings of the camp. I did get to sit in on several classes where I held a Black King snake, a Spotted salamander, a Brown Wart toad, a 10 year old female Box turtle, and an Eastern Corn snake. Yes, there are pictures to prove this actually happened, and they have not been doctored on photo shop...just ask Jennifer. I also learned some basics of building a rock wall, like the 1,000s of rock walls found in Kentucky. I would love to try building one for real. It is complicated, but I think I have most of it figured out. It was a fun time and well worth the trip. I hope that when I have to be in charge of an Environmental Camp I will remember all the Jennifer taught me, but hopefully that won't happen for a long time.
